In 1954, one aspect that was developing in Hollywood was special effects. As movies have become more fantastical and technology more advanced, special effects have become more sophisticated. Many of the special effects of today are created by computers. When Godzilla was made, computers were not available so they had to use models and special lighting.

Eiji Tsuburaya, the technical director of the original 1954 Godzilla created the monster by having a human wear a rubber suit. This was one of the first times this technique was used in film and is called "suitmation".
In order to create Godzilla's destruction of large cities, miniatures were created and the magic of the suitmation would begin. For more on Godzilla, check out the website wikizilla. |
A year later after the success of Godjira in Japan, Godzilla came to the United States. It contained many scenes from the original Japanese version but added American actors and a different story line.
